frequently asked questions

Q. Am I stuck with this voice?

A. Like your head of hair, you're also born with a particular voice. The individual sound and language that develops is in direct response to personal environment, yet it's still your voice. Billions are spent on hair products and services with the eye on improving its health, vitality and style. Imagine the same attention, through The DC Method™, can now be focused on improving the health, vitality and style of your voice.

Q. Does David reduce accents?
A. Yes, this is delicate work because you don't want to erase the individual's personality and sensibility as the
accent falls away.

“I've never heard a voice that couldn't be tuned up.”

Q. Can David really get anyone to sing?
A. Yes, really. And David says, "yes, because I've never
heard a voice that couldn't be tuned up." For each individual,
it's always about creating access to pitch. Also, DC has
appeared on TV doing this work which, if he really couldn't,
that would then make him crazy, yes?

Q. What can I expect in a private session?
A. David does an immediate voice analysis. Singers will sing a song of their choice a cappella and speakers will read copy of their choice. DC gives direction and based on how the individual responds to that direction, he starts to devise a program that pays special attention to the individual's goal. The individual leaves the first session with a recording of daily vocal exercises customized to address their specific issues.

Q. What should I bring?
A. A recording device to document the session, bottle of water and an open mind.

Q. Does David play piano?
A. This question always makes David laugh. He doesn't play a Vocal Coach on TV, that's really him, really playing.
However, David does understand the question and you've every right to ask it.

Q. Does David teach all styles of music?
A. This question refers to genres (pop, classical, R&B, etc.) and the answer is yes. More importantly, for new singers,
DC helps you develop your own particular style.

Q. Does David coach singing auditions?
A. Yes. DC covers everything from selecting music consistent with your particular audition requirements to vocal arrangements of old and new material, including lessons in audition etiquette.

Q. Does David coach acting auditions?
A. Great question and yes DC does. Actors so often get caught in their head with "sides" because mostly it's a last minute audition and the reading is always out of context from the piece. Voice work helps immensely, not only with nerves but with arriving at new interpretations. The same work applies to TV hosting as well as voice-over auditions.

Q. Where is DC's studio located?
A. Central Los Angeles.

Q. How do I book a session?
A. By emailing dc@davidcoury.com. The subject line must read 'Private Session' and body of the email must include your background/personal history in relation to your goal and/or a medical diagnosis, why you want to study with DC,
how you were referred, and your complete contact information.

Q. If I can't come to DC's studio can he do remote sessions?
A. Yes, online sessions can be booked.

Q. Does David travel?
A. Yes, DC does travel to locations worldwide to conduct seminars and one-on-one sessions.

Q. What is the most common mistake made by singers and speakers?
A. Breathing incorrectly. Most people before David starts to work with them, no matter what their level of experience, are breathing incorrectly. Breathing is the miracle as it is the initiator of sound.

Q. What is the most common misconception?
A. How to project the voice.

Q. Do I have to be in the entertainment industry to become a client?
A. No. David helps everyone, regardless of vocation. The truth is that most people work in the public eye or with the public on some level on a daily basis and tenets of The DC Method™ run the spectrum. DC is passionate about helping people.

Q. I've had a speech impairment that experts have told me can't be fixed. Has David had any clients where he could not help them?
A. Never. David never gets used to that fact so he answers with great humility. He is always humbled by the work at hand, dives right in and is moved by the results.

Q. Typically how long does it take to see results?
A. Results are immediate. There is a shift in comprehension coupled with learning a new specific technique,
so the voice follows instantly. There is always an immediate result as well as long term growth.
In applying The DC Method™ your voice builds collateral.
